AMD technology FreeSync™ is a dynamic refresh rate feature implemented through embedded panels and external DisplayPort.
FreeSync™ technology on AMD GPUs addresses communication issues between the processor and monitor, eliminating the effects of tearing and breaking resulting in smooth gaming.
Without FreeSync™ Technology
V-SYNC was created to eliminate tearing, but it causes reduced frame rate values, mouse lag and stuttering during game play.
With FreeSync™ Technology
AMD FreeSync™ technology synchronizes between the GPU and monitor so that frames are displayed when ready – so there’s no tearing or stuttering.
System Requirements for FreeSync™ Monitor (For example: MG279Q)
FreeSync™ enabled in MG279 OSD settings, select timing refresh rate on PC between 35-90Hz (DP/miniDP only)
Software: AMD Catalyst™ version 15.3 Beta or latest version, Windows® 7/8/8.1 32 or 64bit
(Notes: AMD FreeSync™ demo application “Windmill” must be run on 64bit OS)
AMD GPU: AMD Radeon™ R9 295X2, 290X, R9 290, R9 285, R7 260X, and R7 260 …etc.
(For other supported GPUs, PC systems and minimum required drivers, please contact the GPU manufacturer).
